Don't overpack. Comb, moisturizer, fresh underwear, ok, but you probably don't need a change of outerwear from what you wore to the hospital.
Do bring magazines -- the last couple of New Yorkers you haven't gotten to, maybe, or a few new magazines that look intriguing. After you've read them, pass them on to the nurses for their pleasure and for the waiting rooms.
